Launched in 2010, Pinterest has become one of the rapidly growing social networking and photo sharing websites. Within a span of nine months since launch, the social networking website mustered over 10,000 registered users. Available in English, Spanish, German and Portuguese, Pinterest had over 11.5 million registered users at the end of February 2012. Pinterest hit the limelight, when President Obama took to the website to promote his campaigning efforts.

According to a ComScore report, Pinterest became the first social networking website to surpass the 10 million registered users mark in a short span of 20 months since its launch. A reputed research firm reported that Pinterest generates more traffic to third-party websites than any other social networking and social bookmarking website. In March 2011, Pinterest launched its official app for iPhone and Android users. This app launch further catalyzed its popularity amongst social networking smartphone users. Though the Pinterest app received more than anticipated downloads, many iPhone and Android users reported bug and functionality issues.

Some of the notable issues that iPhone users reported while using Pinterest app:

  • Certain users reported that they were asked log in to their account frequently.
  • Some users reported an Application Programming Interface (API) error at the time of log in.
  • Few users complained that they were unable to see the search bar and the individual categories option.

One major issue that most Android users reported while using the Pinterest app was that they were unable to log in if they had special characters in their passwords. Due to these issues the Pinterest app was receiving stick from the media and its registered user base. In order to salvage its reputation and fix all the bug issues, Pinterest rectified the reported issues and released an updated version of the Pinterest app on August 17, 2012.

Pinterest reported in a separate press release that it had fixed the bug and functionality issues in the new Pinterest app. The updated version of app was available for download from August 17, 2012. For iOS users, the updated app will be compatible with all OS devices other than the iPhone 2G, 3G and the first two versions of iPod. With this app, iPad users can seamlessly save and organize stuff, while also enjoying the new ways of engaging with the app. iPhone users can make the most out of the redesigned app that boasts a two-column layout that provides a vivid depiction of all the pinboards.

For Android users, the updated app is designed to work well on all Android powered phones and tablets, irrespective of the device’s performance or screen size. The updated app is also custom-designed to suit Android users and help them pin stuff and upload content easily to their new or existing pinboards. Since the updated app’s launch on August 17, the app has received more than 8,400 downloads on Google Play. Of the more than 8,400 app users, about 6,100 users have given the app a 5 star rating, which equates to about 75% of the users.

Pinterest has requested its users to follow these instructions if they are experiencing previously reported issues with the updated app:

For iOS users:

  1. Quit the Pinterest app and restart it again.
  2. Uninstall the Pinterest app from the device, and then reinstall it from the Pinterest website or iTunes store.
  3. Switch off your phone and switch it on again.

For Android users:

  1. Quit the Pinterest app and restart it again.
  2. Uninstall the Pinterest app from the device, and then reinstall it from the Pinterest site or Google Play app store.
  3. Switch off the device and switch it on again.

If you are Kindle Fire owner, then there is good news for you. Pinterest has reported that the updated version of the Pinterest app is available on the Amazon Appstore for download. So, what are you waiting for, log in or register with Pinterest and enjoy the gamut of social networking options it offers. So with all the bugs and issues fixed, Pinterest app users can start pinning.
